Team cycles for local shelter
A team chose to take on the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge for a local charity.
After months of preparation and planning residents from far and near came together for one cause; to raise funds for children at the Bethany House, a local children’s home in Monument.
Gert Jonker, founder and CEO of The Bethany House Trust, opened the pre-race dinner function after which Beverley Blake, the Bethany 94.7 project leader of Friends of The Bethany House Trust, discussed all the arrangements and logistics for the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge that took place on 16 November.
Roger Ward representing Peaceforce Security handed over a race goodie bag to each participating cyclist on the night. The race pack included a beautifully designed race shirt sponsored by Peaceforce Security along with race-day goodies sponsored by Vega instruments.

This was the first year this children’s charity was represented in this cycle challenge and the community managed to raise a staggering R64 000 for the Trust.
The money will be used for the Dream Factory at the Trust, which deals with all things relating to schools such as uniforms, books and stationery, homework support and outings.
“This is brilliant, considering it is our first time raising funds at this cycle event,” said Blake on behalf of Friends of The Bethany House Trust, a voluntary support group formed in August 2013 to improve the quality of life of people in need.
