Daryn ready for gruelling Dusi
Despite the rough and turbulent waters, Daryn finished the race in six hours and 37 minutes.
The Two Day Klip River race was the last river race in Gauteng before the FNB Dusi and local paddler Daryn Koertzen is ready.
The race, which took place at the end of January, was an important training opportunity. It provided tough challenges, demanding and exhausting technical stretches with numerous obstacles to climb in and out or around, some awesome rapids with massive stopper waves and huge drops and holes that swallowed paddlers whole.
Despite the rough and turbulent waters, numerous obstacles and the long distance, Daryn finished the race in six hours and 37 minutes.
A number of paddlers from Mpumalanga, KZN and the Cape participated in the event as the rivers in their provinces have run dry because of the drought.
Kia/ Hyundai Fourways not only provided a bus to transport the paddlers to the start after leaving their cars at the finish, but also assisted with marshalling and directional advice for the paddlers and runners through sections where the river was too dangerous due to fallen trees after recent storms and flooding.
