UniHigh up their ball game

UniHigh's pupils welcomed action soccer with enthusiasm.

UniHigh launched a new sport, action soccer, at the school this year and the team is already featuring in the first league they entered.

The 30-minute fast-paced game allows only four players on the pitch during play. Each team can have up to two substitute players.

The team entered the Hillfox Action Arena’s Soccer League recently and with 13 matches already played, they featured in the log’s top ten.

The eight players are pupils from Grades 10, 11 and 12 at UniHigh in Kenmare. Although the sport is not commonly found in many of Krugersdorp’s schools, marketing manager and team coach Natalie Franklin said the pupils had a great interest in participating.

“We are launching action netball this month too,” she said.

As for the soccer team, the players are preparing for the next game this Sunday (5 June) and to keep the pace going for the rest of the year.

“We are looking to expand by having at least two teams in the league next year,” said Franklin.

Matches are played every Sunday afternoon, and spectators can lend their support, free of charge.
