‘We’ve got spirit, yes we do’
The Gauteng Police Road Cycling team won the trophy for Team Spirit and more at the recent nationals.
The Gauteng Police Road Cycling team returned home with a handful of prizes after participating in the South African Police Services National Road Cycling Championships.
The team of 21 officers, who practise together on a regular basis, and have participated in other races including the Cape Argus Cycle Tour and the 947 Cycle Challenge, recently went to Kimberley to compete for the ultimate trophy.
The Championships were hosted from 10 to 15 July in Kimberley, and had police officers from all over the country going head-to-head for the title as the national winners.
“It was extremely challenging but rewarding. We had so much fun. I am so proud of the Gauteng Cycle team,” said Captain Paula Terblanche from the Krugersdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
Although the team did not return with the overall winners’ trophy, they managed to bag a few prizes. They were awarded the Team Spirit Trophy, and were declared the winners in the 30–39 years of age category. The team also ended third in the 40–49 years of age category.
Three members of the Gauteng team were also selected to cycle for the National Team.
