Krugersdorp lad places at the Olympics
Krugersdorp local recieves a silver medal at the Rio Olympics.
Krugersdorp’s very own Shaun Bryce Keeling made his country proud when he recently achieved silver at the Olympic Games in Rio.
Shaun and his team-mate Lawrence Brittain won the silver medal in the men’s coxless pairs event, with a time of 7:02.51 – 2,80 seconds behind the New Zealand pair of Eric Murray and Hamish Bond who finished with a time of 6:59.71.
Shaun attended King Edward VII School in Houghton and boarded there until he matriculated in 2005. His father sent him on a rowing camp before he started at the school, in order to make friends, and that was where it all started.
“It was hard. We were in a deep, dark corner there and we needed to pull something out of the bag. Everyone was moving and we were actually losing speed there and then we just started moving, started picking up momentum and went straight through them,” Shaun said when asked about the race.
The next event that Shaun will be participating in is the Men’s Pairs Rowing Final B, which takes place today at 2.30pm (4:30 PST).
