Silver for local judo star

Local judo students represent South Africa at an international tournament.

A local Judo student has bagged a silver medal in the African Cadet and Junior Championships.

Students from the Kuzushi Judo Kwai (KJK) came home winners of the championships, which were held in Casa Blanca, Morocco on 26 July.

Bernhard Venter, better known as Harm, was one of the top achievers from the club during this tournament and took a silver medal in the Cadet Boys’ 66kg division.

Harm also formed part of the team of five which walked away with a bronze medal in the team division.

“It was Harm’s final fight against an opponent from Gabon that was the determining fight for team South Africa in the championships. If he had lost that fight, we would not have won the medal,” said KJK instructor, Sensei Katja Bruwer.
