QRS hockey team smashed by Logwood
'The players were too fast and we were all blown away by how well they played.'
Emergency services personnel showed their soft side recently when they visited Logwood Village, a home for the intellectually impaired, and played floor hockey against its residents.
Members of the Quick Response Service (QRS) West Rand team set aside their busy and rushed schedules for the day to bravely kit up against the well-trained Logwood floor hockey team. Logwood dominated the circuit from the word go.
“The players were too fast and we were all blown away by how well they played,” said Braden Stephenson, QRS spokesperson.
Halftime Logwood led the scoreboard by 5–0.

QRS team members scored a mere one goal, letting Logwood walk away with an 8–1 victory.
“The match required a lot of focus because the puck moved very, very fast,” Braden said.
Floor hockey is similar to ice hockey, however it is played on a surfaced circuit with sticks without a horizontally shaped tip.
After the tough match, the QRS team spent some time with the residents, listening to their stories.

“One of the residents used to be a firefighter, but unfortunately sustained major brain damage in the line of duty,” Braden said.
They also had a peak into the residents’ daily routine.
