KHS and Pro-Practicum host successful provincial tournament

The Gauteng Provincial Winter Games is coordinated by the Gauteng Department of Sport & Recreation, Department of Education, School Sport Codes and the Sports Federations and took place across Gauteng.

On Saturday, 10 June, the Gauteng Provincial Winter Games took place at various sports grounds across the province, including those of Krugersdorp High School and Pro-Practicum School.

During this day, only the best of the best were selected to represent the province as Team Gauteng at the SA School Winter Games that will be taking place in KwaZulu-Natal in July this year.

Esethu Qwabe, Gugulethu Thabede, Asendathi James and Khanya Gaji, the U/15 volleyball team from Fumana Comprehensive High School in Ekurhuleni South excited to showcase their talents.

The various sport codes included rugby, tennis, volleyball, football, and football for learners with special educational needs.

Should Gauteng win this upcoming tournament, it will be their record-breaking sixth win at the SA School Winter Games.

Lebo Molatudi, Adelaide Tambo School’s wheelchair tennis coach for learners aged 15 and 16 said he believes his team has what it takes to qualify for the summer games in Durban.

“We have been working for months for this, so I know my team will give their all,” he said before the match.

St Vincent School for the Deaf, Zimeleni School, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela School, Rotara Special School, Thembinkosi School, Medicos School, and Sizwile School for the Deaf, among many others, competed against each other at Krugersdorp High School on the day.
