Local equestrian is ready to dance

Dressage riders often describe it as an opportunity to dance with their horses while executing precise movements in harmony with their equine.

During the month of September equestrian enthusiasts and animal lovers can look forward to supporting local equestrian, Kate Johns who will be strutting her stuff with her equine partner during two prestige competitions.

Kate and a few of her students from Kellow Park Stables and Horse Riding Centre have been preparing for these internationally recognised assemblies for quite some time.

Eaton Farm and Hollyberry Hall, under the auspices of Dressage SA and the South African Equestrian Federation, are presenting not one but two international dressage competitions during this coming month.

Dressage sport is defined by the world governing body of equestrian sports, namely the International Federation of Equestrian Sports (FEI), as ‘the highest expression of horse training’ where ‘horse and rider are expected to perform from memory a series of predetermined movements’.

Dressage riders often describe it as an opportunity to dance with their horses while executing precise movements in harmony with their equine. It is perceived as the ballet of equestrian disciplines.

The Concours de Dressage International (CDI) and the FEI World Dressage Challenge (WDC) will be running over two consecutive weekends this year. Spectators are invited to watch the creame of the crop of South African dressage riders in action.

The WDC will take place from 8 to 10 September at Eaton Farm and the CDI will take place at Hollyberry Hall from 14 to 17 September. Kellow Park wishes Katie and the other participants the best of luck.
