Curro adventurers win provincial race

They had to complete a 56km race in harsh conditions.

The 2017 Gauteng Provincial Adventure Racing, held by Kinetic Events, took place on 8 and 9 September in Parys.

Curro Krugersdorp entered an U/13 team consisting of Nianca Kempenaar, Leandro Pieterse, Armindo Bento and Blaine Kieck. They had to complete a 56km race in harsh conditions.

The trail had mountains, bushveld areas and even some cattle farms to contend with, and that wasn’t all.

The elements took theirs toll and it was all about determination and teamwork to get through the race.

The last 17kms consisted of a 15km night cycle and a 2km kayak paddle.

The team completed the race in nine hours and six minutes, and was crowned the champions of the race.

They will be going through to National Adventure racing on 2 and 3 October.

These youngsters showed that they are made of steel, and Curro is proud of them.
