Entries open for condensed Cradle Traverse Experience

In addition to the two-day event, the Glacier Cradle Traverse also boasts a Glacier Cradle Schools Challenge and Fun Ride.

The Glacier Cradle Traverse – which is set to take place in Muldersdrift from 6 to 8 April, has added a two-day event option for riders who cannot attend the first day of the race on Friday. The two-day event will run concurrently with the three-day event, along the same routes, on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 April.

The Glacier Cradle Traverse is a non-competitive stage race, which aims to introduce Gauteng mountain bikers to the famous Glacier Storms River Traverse spirit – which was first fostered in the Tsitsikamma Forests of the Eastern Cape – on the fantastic trails of the Cradle of Humankind. The routes take in some of the region’s best flowing single tracks, scenic jeep tracks and a number of otherwise inaccessible gems.

Dubbed the Glacier Cradle Traverse Two-day Experience, the condensed event is only shortened in terms of riding days, not the daily riding distances. Entrants will start alongside the three-day riders and ride the same 54 and 41 kilometre routes.

The two-day’s opening stage is the ‘Lake Heritage Traverse’, which at 54 kilometres long with 985 metres of climbing is the longest stage in the race. The final day of the event is the 41 kilometre long ‘Conquer the Kloof’ stage, which includes 681 metres of climbing in its criss-crossing of the Kingskloof trail network.

“Coming from the Cape, we were surprised to see how hard-working everyone in Gauteng is,” joked Dryland’s Henco Rademeyer. “For the people who cannot take a Friday off work we have created a two-day option at the Glacier Cradle Traverse.

They can get into the spirit of the event at registration on Friday night, enjoy dinner with the riders who started on Friday morning and stay in the race village before starting the event on Saturday morning,” he explained.

Entry packages for the Glacier Cradle Traverse Two-Day Experience include accommodation and own-accommodation options for teams and solo riders. More information can be found online at https://www.cradletraverse.co.za.

In addition to the two-day event, the Glacier Cradle Traverse also boasts a Glacier Cradle Schools Challenge and Fun Ride, which takes place on Sunday 8 April.

Starting at 8.30am, the 10 kilometre distance offers race categories for boys and girls between the ages of 8 to 13 and 14 to 18, while non-competitive fun riders of all ages are also welcome to take part.

Entries will be available at the start, at R100 per rider, at the Biogen Sports Park from 7am.
