Future sport stars encouraged with new attire

Try to imagine for a second what it’s like, participating in your favourite sport. However, you don’t have the correct attire, or a decent court or field.

Instead of focusing on the ball, or the finish line, you can’t help but concentrate on not losing your footing on the sandy field or dodging the weeds on the overgrown court.

For a local underprivileged school, this is their daily reality. At Matla Combined School they accommodate primary and secondary school learners from rural areas such as the Video Centre informal settlement, Sterkfontein and Kromdraai as well as areas as far afield as Poortview, Honeydew and Heuningklip, to name only a few.

When the school approached the CEO of MM Cleaning and Multi-Purpose, Gideon Phiri, he knew that he had to help them in some way or other. He subsequently thought it best to equip four of their major sporting codes with brand new kits. These codes are volleyball, soccer, athletics and netball.

Five soccer teams were ecstatic when they received a total of about 50 development kits. Furthermore, the volleyball, athletics and netball teams all received a set of standard kit as well.
