If at first you don’t succeed, trail and trail again

Athletes had the opportunity to choose between four trails – a 2,5km, 5km, 10km and (for those who felt a bit adventurous) a 20km trail.

Curro Krugersdorp hosted its second annual Curro Trail Run event and is thrilled to announce that the day saw more than 850 athletes putting their endurance to the ultimate test.

Even though they were sceptical about the weather, Saturday, 24 March turned out to be a morning of sunshine and clear skies after a week of rain. Athletes had the opportunity to choose between four trails – a 2,5km, 5km, 10km and (for those who felt a bit adventurous) a 20km trail.

“Not only is it a beautiful, unspoiled area, but is also the home of a rare orchid and other beautiful indigenous flora and fauna.

This rare orchid has recently been added to the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN’s) global Red List and is critically endangered,” Curro marketer, Roxanne Robertson said.

“The trail is also one of the toughest in the area because of the steep hills and rugged terrain. Nevertheless, families, friends and colleagues took to the trails and finished with a smile. After the event, the Farmer’s Market in Ruimsig had some delicious coffee and treats available for the participants.”

The participants were surprised to see a few familiar faces among them. It was none other than a few cast members from Binnelanders and Getroud met Rugby who challenged each other on the 5km Trail Run in aid of the Theatre Benevolent Fund. The actors included Reynardt Hugo, Nadia Valvekens, Cindy Swanepoel, Altus Theart and Zetske van Pletzen.

Participants were even more thrilled when sponsors Fitlab and Hinrichsen Attorneys came on board and donated a jaw-dropping amount of R15 000 in total.

Curro Krugersdorp would like to thank every person, sponsors included, for contributing to the day’s success.
