Local karatekas develop their skills

All levels were entered, from white, right through to black belt.

The Krugersdorp Goju Ryu Karate Academy is proud of quite a few students who took part in a developmental tournament that was held in Alberton.

According to sensei Gi-Gi Albarran, the tournament focuses on developing and growing future karatekas and referees. No student with provincial or national colours obtained previously was allowed to participate.

She went on to say that all levels were entered, from white right through to black belt. Gi-Gi was proud to mention that a total of eight medals were accumulated by four of her students.

Duray Hyman achieved gold for both Kata and Kumite for boys U/6. Giovanni Cox achieved a silver for Kumite and a bronze for Kata in the division for boys aged 10.

Sylvano Hyman acquired a gold medal for Kata and a bronze for Kumite in the division for boys aged 14. In the Senior Veteran Category, Thomas Boshoff was awarded a gold for both Kumite and Kata.
