KHS hosts another big Best of the West sports festival

Rugby and hockey teams, two of which came all the way from Zimbabwe and one from KwaZulu-Natal, all competed against each other.

Krugersdorp High School (KHS) continued with its Best of the West tournaments during the Easter weekend, this time hosting multiple schools and clubs playing boys’ rugby and hockey. A couple of teams even came from as far away as Zimbabwe.

A few unfriendly clouds unfortunately made a couple of visits throughout the weekend, causing some games to be cancelled.

The host team could unfortunately only play one of the three games that it was scheduled for.

Ten rugby and eight hockey teams, of which two teams came all the way from Zimbabwe and one from KwaZulu-Natal, all competed against each other throughout the weekend. Being a festival for sport, there weren’t really any big winners for the weekend. In the end, it was all about the love for the game.

KHS, for the first time since its inception, had the opportunity to play a rugby game on their A field at night. Recently, the school installed and switched on its floodlights.

“For the past five years or so, the school has really tried to upgrade its facilities wherever possible, and a decision was made to upgrade the rugby A field. Having the lights broadens the opportunities for the school and it’s very exciting to see what great developments will arise as a result of having them,” Lauren Jooste -Coetsee, Marketing Director of KHS, said.
