Lads have some rugby fun with their dads

Monument Primary rugby players and their parents were treated to a fun day of training.

Monument Primary started preparing for their rugby season in a unique way this year.

Recently parents and children dressed in their exercise gear joined the coaches on the field for a fun day of training. It was the school’s fourth annual Dads and Lads Day.

“This is a nice opportunity to spend time with your child,” explained Morné Voster from Monument Primary School, adding that the event was aimed at familiarising parents with what they do at training and what is expected of the players.

He added that parents could get a better understanding of everything going on at training, and that the coaches found that days such as these helped to improve communication.

About 100 players and 60 parents participated at four stations. There was a conditioning station, a defence station, an attack station, and a general skills station, all relating to the skills the rugby players need and are taught.

Parents will now be able to help their children practise these skills to prepare them for the upcoming rugby season.

Monument will face Bekker Primary in a friendly match on 27 February to kick off the rugby season.
