Seventh annual Matla A Bana Xtreme for Kids race comes to an end

Seven cyclists took to the road in February and rode the more than 1 900 kilometres to raise awareness and funds to help children.

Matla A Bana kicked off their Xtreme for Kids Cycle Tour 2020 at Laerskool Krugersdorp-Noord in February.

The first Xtreme for Kids tour was in 2013, and is a tour cycle challenge that stretches from Johannesburg to Cape Town to raise awareness. Along the way the riders also reach out to rural communities and speak to the children about different subjects.

Matla A Bana’s aim is to minimise the secondary abuse that some children suffer when they report crimes. They create child-friendly reporting facilities, provide comfort packs for child rape victims, and host more specialised training for police members.

With their visit to Noordskool, they put on a stage play to teach the children to say no to strangers who offer them lifts or gifts.

There was also a talk about bullying and fighting.

The team left at 8.30am and the next stop on their tour was Parys. Along their route of 1 904 kilometres they visited over 7 000 children. It took the team 11 days to reach Cape Town.

On the Matla A Bana Facebook page they said, “We at Matla A Bana and our Xtreme for kids Cycle Tour team would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone who came through to our final event to welcome our team to Cape Town”.
