Runners take on first trial in months
After months of harsh lockdown regulations, running clubs can finally return to some semblance of normality and start hosting their trial runs once more.
South Africa is finally returning to some semblance of normality as it eases out of the harshest lockdown regulations.
With it, running clubs are dealing with what the new normal would be for their training sessions.

The first real big test for the viability of the new health and safety regulations recently came for the Run Zone West Rand when they held their first trial run in five months.
Unfortunately, as club manager Warren Mackenzie explained, they’ve lost quite a few members during the lockdown period and needed to start fairly fresh again.

During their first open trial run, the club attracted quite a few feet and new faces as they took on the hilly terrain of Noordheuwel.
The trial run was made up of a few different routes of 4km and 8km sets, each indicated by markers in different colours along the road, and provided every kind of runner with a track best suited to their level of fitness. The toughest route, the red route, started at the Perfect Swing Golf Driving Range in Monument and consisted of a mostly downhill 8km ‘super ‘fast’ run to the Noordheuwel Bowling Club. From there, the club hosts time trials every Tuesday at 5.30pm.

Throughout the week other clubs in Krugersdorp held their trial runs to welcome back old and new runners, with each club opting for a different day to accommodate their neighbouring clubs. Some runners from each club even opted to try out the other clubs and give them a bit of friendly competition.
