Team Rage brings home 20 medals

Team Rage 2 kickboxers competed against 380 other fighters and the team impressed bringing home 20 medals.

Opponents at the Great North 3 Tournament recently learned who the fighters from the Rage Kickboxing Club are. This after Team Rage 2 kickboxers competed against 380 other fighters and brought home 20 medals.

A total of eight fighters from the local club participated at the open competition for all South African Kickboxing Association (SAKA) kickboxers at the Danie van Zyl Hall in Newlands on October 29.

Regarding results, Linzy Henning, 13, won three gold medals, Lizey Henning, 7, won two silver and one gold medal, Liam Marx,7, won three gold medals and Alexander Retief, 13, won one silver medal.

PJ Brits, 30, also won two silver medals with Reinhardt Labushagne, 17, and Estiaan Labushagne, 21, each bagging a silver medal. Veruchelle Hanekom,13, took home two bronze medals as well as a silver medal.

Everyone fought in semi-light, light contact and low kick divisions except for PJ, Reinhardt, Estiaan and Alexander who only competed in the light contact and low kick divisions.

PJ once again helped out with the coaching and will also attend a coaching course soon. Some of the parents will also be attending referee and judging courses.

The club’s juniors also competed at the Tiny Titans Tournament in Benoni on November 19 and on November 29 with PJ graduating to receive his first black belt while Sensei Fred Lourens from the club is now a 3rd Dan.
