Golden years for Kagiso’s golden oldies
The Golden Oldies women will soon be taking on other teams from the region in soccer and netball.
When it comes to over-60s women’s football and netball, Kagiso’s seniors have demonstrated that they are unbeatable.
This was the inaugural year for the women’s netball league, and these two teams advanced to the following round as members of the West Rand team during the first local meeting of the year.
The women’s soccer team 62 years and older won their game at this local meeting with a score of 3–0. While the netball was uncontested. These two teams played their second round on July 21 at the regional meeting.

At the local meeting, the Golden Oldies had the opportunity to participate in Jukskei, rugby ball throw, ball pass and kick, duck walk, brisk walk, a dress-up race, pegging washing, ball relay, and the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m run.
Joseph Kgang, the organiser, said they are also looking into forming a men’s soccer team but they need men to come and join them.

“As elders, we need to be healthy and strong, mentally, spiritually and physically. A healthy mind and a healthy body. Elders, please avoid abusing yourselves by taking responsibility for your children; your grandchildren have their parents. Your years of parenting are over. Enjoy life and be happy, let nothing distract you from having fun,” he added as he explained that too many of the elderly have to look after their grandchildren in their old age.
If you are 60 years and older and want to join them, visit the Kagiso Sports Stadium on Mondays to Thursdays from 09:00 or call Joseph on 011 410 5971.
