Khosa's U9 cricket boys dominated the Randburg 100-ball cricket tournament having taken 56 wickets and scoring more than 1 400 runs in total.

The Khosa U9 cricket team knocked their opponents out of the park during the Randburg 100-ball cricket tournament recently.

The Randburg 100-ball cricket tournament is held annually at the Randburg Cricket Grounds where various clubs from in and around the City of Johannesburg go head to head to determine who dominates cricket in the metro. The tournament consists of 10 teams across various age groups ranging from juniors to seniors.

However, Randburg’s version is based on The Hundred in Europe, and according to the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) official website, The Hundred is a professional 100-ball cricket tournament involving eight men and eight women teams located in major cities across the two countries. The tournament is run by the ECB and took place for the first time in July and August 2021. The format was invented with the expectation that each match would last around two-and-a-half hours. The BBC showed free-to-air broadcasts of the competition, while all of the women’s matches and some of the men’s matches were available to stream for free on Sky Sports’ YouTube channel.

Khosa’s U9 boys team scored more than 1 400 runs in total during the tournament.

The Khosa U9 cricket team in particular impressed and proved to be a dominant team in the tournament.

The youngsters played nine games in six weeks beating all their opponents. They faced various top clubs across Johannesburg such as Randburg Raptors, Wanderers and Western Warriors.

According to the team’s coach, Paul Els, the youngsters were the top performers scoring 1 401 runs collectively which included eight 50s and two centuries. They conceded 840 runs only and took 56 wickets.

“This is a huge improvement considering the boys finished fifth in the league last year. We are over the moon,” said a proud Paul.
