Khosa Cricket Club’s senior teams showed immense character recently when they went head-to-head against numerous opponents from around Johannesburg.
The teams they faced included the University of Johannesburg, Wits University, and Crescents Cricket Club.
Khosa’s three senior cricket teams compete in the Black Widow T20 League, A-league, and B-league respectively.
Each league is comprised of 14 teams split up into two groups and each team hopes to compete for top honours. Khosa’s A team is in group B leading the way and after having played in six matches they won five losing just one. This is an impressive win rate of 83%. They also scored 965 runs in the process. Furthermore, they have three players who ranked within the top 10 over the last calendar year for their excellent performances. Tiaan Brits astonishingly scored over 1 200 runs, Zakir Kathrada a total of 746 runs and Ruan van Tonder 634 runs.
Khosa’s B team is currently sitting fourth in group A of the B-League having played six games and having won three. Their highest-ranked player is Saad Shoaib who is also among the top 20 players.
On January 20, the teams showed great performances as they put some staggering numbers in their respective games.
Their results over the weekend are as follows:
• Khosa A vs Wits Academy – Khosa won by 30 runs. Maritz Strauss took four wickets conceding just 46 runs while Themba Maupa had bowling figures of 3/20. Ruan van Tonder scored 43 runs from just 42 balls and Zakir Kathrada 41 runs from 47 balls.
• Khosa B played against Crescents having won by 29 runs. Saad Shoaib had bowling figures of 4/20 and Joshua van Oudtshoorn 4/6.
