Khosa seniors dominate weekend fixtures
Khosa senior cricketers had their opponents at sixes and sevens during a weekend of action-packed cricket recently.
Khosa’s senior cricket teams continue to reach new heights and boundaries.
Recent performances have shown that their teams are showing great dominance in the Black Widow T20 and Lions Club Leagues with each member of the squad playing a vital role in the success.
Late last month, the team played various matches facing top clubs around Johannesburg. The first match over the weekend saw the Lions Club senior team face Wanderers Cricket Club. What was a bowling masterclass saw Khosa’s Clayton Schutzler bag three wickets conceding 43 runs while teammate Coenraad van Wyk took two wickets for 32 runs in his four overs. Khosa ultimately restricted Wanderers to just 231 runs and the Khosa batsmen backed up their bowlers with a good display with the willow winning the game comfortably in the end by eight wickets.

In the Black Widow T20 league, Khosa’s A team also proved their worth against Johannesburg Cricket Club who were bowled out for 249. The standout bowlers for Khosa were Saad Shoaib who took an impressive four wickets for just 72 runs while Tian Ehlers bagged a couple conceding just 45 runs. In addition, Joshua van Oudtshoorn took two wickets for 45 runs. They would eventually win the match by five wickets as Keagan van Wyk scored a brilliant 91 runs from 104 balls. He was well supported by Saad’s great knock of 55 runs from 61 balls – a stunning partnership of 146 runs.
The final fixture over the weekend would see the Khosa B team play against Riverlea Cricket Club.
They beat Riverlea by 94 runs as they chose to bat first, scoring 268 runs. Ignus Meyer scored 67 runs from 121 balls, Joubert Fourie 37 runs from 33 balls and Omo Sibi 33 runs not out from 27 balls. Riverlea was eventually bowled out for 174 with Omo Sibi taking five wickets for 20 runs. Jason Godwin also contributed taking three wickets for 67 runs.
