Youngster reaches 1 000 run milestone for Khosa
It's safe to say that Khosa's Matthew Maritz is the ideal role model in cricket known as the gentleman's game.
Khosa Cricket Club batsman Matthew Maritz reached 1 000 runs for his club recently.
Matthew plays for Khosa’s men’s senior team specifically and has a lot to boast about.
At just 21 years old, he ranks at the top of the local cricket pyramid for having scored the most runs in the team – more than 1 000 runs with an impressive average of 48.76 runs per game. Matthew has always been an avid sportsman as he said that he used to be a gymnast before playing cricket. However, his passion grew and he now has major aspirations in the sport.
He says he has always been a big fan of the sport and described how his father was his biggest inspiration and motivator.
“I just love watching cricket and my father was and still is a big fan of cricket so it has always been part of my life. My dad taught me that no matter what challenge I might face, there is always a way to conquer it,” Matthew said.

In April he will be going to England to play for Hailsham Cricket Club in Sussex. Hailsham is a community-oriented club that offers a variety of cricket opportunities for players which includes five Saturday league teams competing in divisions across the Sussex Cricket League, two midweek T20 teams in the Sussex Slam competition, a women’s team in the Sussex Premier division (40 overs) and the Sussex Slam competition, and a friendly 11-team with regular Sunday fixtures.
Matthew hopes that he will reach even bigger milestones in the long term and hopes he can play the sport professionally.
“I hope that when I go play in England this season, I will also reach the 1 000-run milestone.”
Krugersdorp is rooting for Matthew to make it big in the game.
