Kagiso elderly bag 17 medals at Golden Games

Senior citizens from Kagiso proved you are never too old to compete in sports.

The Golden Oldies Club based in Kagiso showed plenty of grit at the National Golden Age Games held in Rustenburg.

Elders competed against the best of the best in a variety of sporting codes including rugby, football and jukskei among others.

According to the Golden Oldies Club team manager Joseph Kgang, the Golden Games aim to promote healthy living among seniors, providing them with a platform to showcase their talents and abilities on a national stage.

He said there were as many as 31 elderly participants to represent Kagiso and the West Rand.

“We bagged 17 medals in both individual and team events. The women’s football team took gold not to mention some of them went on to win other individual races in athletics. More than 1 600 older persons (aged 60 and above) from across the country competed.”

Kgang concluded, ”I’m very proud of what we accomplished. We are getting better and better at every tournament.”
