First night bowls tourney at KBC a shining light

KBC shares the success the community had with their first night bowls tournament.

When Krugersdorp Bowling Club (KBC) switched on the floodlights during its first night bowls tournament, a big dream for a small group of its members became a reality.

Spokesperson for the KBC, David Parker, said this dream was to provide the community with a chance to foster a spirit of fellowship in the area, allowing local businesses the opportunity to strengthen connections with their employees and club members through more social bowls.

“The first night tournament was played earlier this month, finishing on the evening of April 16. The entries indicated that the dream was valid, with three teams from the community and four from local businesses, one of which finished in the top three,” David said.

He continued that Pristine Proho won gold, a Hoërskool Noordheuwel team won silver, and The Dump Truckers secured bronze, with the games showcasing great spirit and competitiveness.

At the prize-giving, club president Andy Selby was proud as he welcomed all the players and spectators. He also thanked the tournament organiser, Patrick Steinhobel, and his team for their efforts, including those who managed the braai.

What a way to spend a Wednesday evening by playing and watching bowls, having a dop and enjoying a boerie roll,” Andy said.

“This tournament was so successful. The next one will start on May 14 and is already full. Bowls is a great game enjoyed by all ages, so come along to watch and play,” David concluded.
