Bowling with a night twist

KBC introduces a more social version of bowls… night bowls.

Krugersdorp Bowling Club (KBC) is embracing a new format in the club’s history where bowls are now being played in the dark, better known as night bowls.

Night bowls are regular bowls, except you play them in the evening under large lights illuminating the greens.

President of the KBC, Andy Selby, said he asked their three life members Joe Price, Kobus Smit and Ian McLaren to deliver the first woods under the lights. Thereafter, 60 members followed suit.

Andy said at the opening that this event was a dream of several members over the years. It then materialised thanks to the support of many club members who built and erected the lights themselves.

The Krugersdorp News attended the night bowls match where it was evident that the social aspect of it was huge.

Andy added, “When players compete after a long day of work, it is a way most of them unwind and relax. Conversation and laughter can be heard with players having fun and socialising, as well as having a drink to relax during the sport.”
