Gold and glory for Summit Gymnastics stars
From Centurion to Port Elizabeth, young gymnasts from Krugersdorp claimed national titles in both artistic and tumbling gymnastics.
Summit Gymnastics Club’s gymnasts went above and beyond at the tumbling and artistic gymnastics nationals recently.
Lauren Smith, owner and head coach of the club, said the competitions for men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics (MAG and WAG) were held at the National Training Centre in Centurion, while the tumbling events took place in Port Elizabeth from October 4 to 9.
She continued to share the gymnasts’ results:

• Elonay Pretorius, in Level 5, won two gold medals for beam and vault, as well as the overall winner, making her the national champion in Level 5 at 12 years old. She competed against 50 other girls in her age group.
• Jaans Kok, in Level 4 for 11-12 years, won gold on floor and vault.
• Jaans came fifth overall, and he competed against 41 boys in his age group. He also competed in Level 5 tumbling in PE, where he won the gold medal, making him the national champion for tumbling Level 5.
• Bailey Wagner is the national champion for tumbling in Level 9.
• Tenieke Malan, in Level 4 for the 10-year-old age group, placed fourth on vault and sixth overall. She competed against 90 other girls. Lauren added that she also competed in PE Level 6 tumbling, where she won the silver medal.

• Eliska Geldenhuys earned a ninth-place ribbon on vault and fifth overall in tumbling for WAG Level 4. Elaina Bleeker received sixth place on bars in WAG Level 4, while Larissa Kleingeld claimed a place ribbon for her floor routine in WAG Level 6.
• Lauren concluded that Mia van Zyl, a Level 6 tumbler, placed fourth.
