KBC players impress at Florida North

Krugersdorp Bowling Club players claim multiple medals at the Sables tournament in Florida North.

The Sables Bowling Association recently hosted its singles tournament at Florida North Bowling Club, with several Krugersdorp Bowling Club (KBC) members competing for titles.

According to KBC spokesperson David Parker, the matches were closely contested. The men’s open final saw Corrie Tagg face Wilson Malabolo, both representing KBC.

“This was a good game, with both players trading the lead on various occasions. It ended with Corrie edging out Wilson for the title,” Parker said.

In the ladies’ open, two national players competed for the title. Bridget Herselman, recently returned from New Zealand, where she competed in the international singles championship, faced former Protea player Nicci Neal.

“The standard was high, and both played many good shots, causing the lead to change numerous times. Bridget showed that it is hard to keep a rising young national player down, following her recent victory,” he added.

The veterans’ section for players over 60, comprising both men and women, was also competitive. Mary Ann Dummer of Leases came from behind to defeat Mary Anne Scheepers of Noordheuwel.

“Dummer found herself trailing but decided to focus and eventually edged out Scheepers in a very exciting game,” Parker explained.

In the men’s veterans’ section, Mark Richardson of Maraisburg Bowling Club competed against Robin Beard of Honeydew.

“This proved to be an exciting game, with both players fighting hard for the title. It ended with Mark executing a few great shots over Robin to win.”

David added that KBC players performed well, with the following members securing medals:

Men’s open:
• Corrie Tagg – gold
• Wilson Malabolo – silver
• Martin Janse – bronze

Ladies’ open:
• Desiree Steinhoble – bronze
• Leila Strydom – bronze

Ladies’ veterans:

KBC president Andy Shelby congratulated all the players on their achievements.
