Curro Krugersdorp Primary School is celebrating a remarkable achievement after Grade Three learner Ethan Fincham delivered an outstanding performance at the SA National Schools Judo Championships.

Competing against some of the country’s top young judokas, Ethan showcased exceptional determination, skill and sportsmanship over two days of intense competition.

Managed by Judo South Africa, the National Schools programme categorises primary and high school athletes by age (from U8 Group 1 through to older junior divisions) and by skill level, namely Novice and Advanced. The championships serve as South Africa’s primary talent identification platform, with top performers and medallists earning opportunities to progress to major international competitions, including international school sports events, the Africa Open and the Youth Games.

On July 6, Ethan fought his way to gold in the U9 Novice under 42kg division, dominating the Tatami with confidence and focus to claim the national title.

According to school marketer Dibuseng Maboya, the success continued on July 7 when Ethan and his Kata partner earned a bronze medal in Nage-no-Kata, highlighting not only his technical ability but also his teamwork and discipline.

“Ethan’s impressive medal haul is a testament to his hard work, dedication and passion for the sport. His achievements have made the Curro Krugersdorp community incredibly proud and serve as an inspiration to fellow learners,” said Dibuseng.
