Man pens petition to alleviate Pinehaven intersection problems

With nearly 150 signatures, it's clear this road is a problem for drivers.

Gerrit Bronkhorst, infrastructure director of Pinehaven Country Estate, recently drew up a petition to force local government officials to increase the quantity and quality of the lanes at the Pinehaven intersection – the N14 and R28.

According to Bronkhorst, residents living near the intersection are fed up about the current condition of the road from that intersection heading towards Muldersdrift.

“This road has been under discussion for decades and nothing has improved to date,” said Bronkhorst.

He highlighted that the opening of Cradlestone Mall and Netcare Pinehaven Hospital increased the traffic in the area so much that it has created a bottleneck effect when driving towards Ventersdorp.

“Businesses expanded and no planning was done to increase the effectiveness of their entrances.”

He also said delivery trucks constantly block the road and hawkers also have a huge effect on the flow of traffic.

The shoulder of the road is also damaged and the slope at the edge of the road is worsened by the sharpness of the overhanging tar.

When heading towards Muldersdrift, the road narrows from four lanes to two very suddenly, increasing the chances of collisions.

He said further, “The configuration of the traffic light is very dangerous as the traffic light is permanently in a damaged state”.

The shoulder of the road is also damaged and a slope at the edge of the road is worsened by the sharpness of the overhanging tar.

Bronkhorst is requesting that the shoulder of the road be cleaned and fixed, curbs installed on these shoulders, for the bottleneck to be alleviated, and the configuration of the traffic light to be sorted out.

The petition currently has 149 signatures, but Bronkhorst urges every person who feels the road is unsafe to sign.

The News contacted Mogale City’s Infrastructure Department for comment, but they failed to respond before this article was published.
