CANSA Relay for Life
12–13 OCTOBER — The annual CANSA Relay for Life event will take place at Hoërskool Bastion in Mindalore from 6pm and will be the highlight of the year. There will be loads to do. Survivors and caregivers are encouraged to register for the Luminaria Ceremony. There will be live entertainment throughout the night, together with food stalls, safe parking and of course the main event – doing laps around the sports field. You are welcome to bring your dogs on leashes, but unfortunately no bicycles! For more information about this worthy event, contact Ester Pretorius on 011 768 4342.
Walk for Rhino’s Spring Dance

12 OCTOBER — Walk for Rhino’s, a non-profit organisation, is hosting a spring dance at the Buffalo Ranch in Krugersdorp West, all to raise
funds for two rhinos – Annie and Zac, which will be relocated to South Africa. There will be performing artists, including Nadia, Leroi, JP Smith, Nathan and Acky Breaky Line Dancers. Kiddies entertainment will include a jumping castle, slide and lots of fun. It’s a bring and braai (pap and gravy will be provided). Francois Myburgh, founder of Walk for Rhino’s will present a slideshow about his walks, and Hendrik (the emcee) will tell the audience more about the organisation. There will also be a raffle draw with amazing prices. Don’t miss this wonderful initiative with rugby on the big screen rugby and a cash bar. Doors open at 3pm until late. Tickets cost R60 per person.
Free self-defence workshop
12 OCTOBER — Cradlestone Mall is hosting a free self-defence workshop from 10.30am. Their co-hosts are Cradle Cares, SAPS, Muldersdrift CPF, Penguin Yoga, Final Stop NPO and Pinehaven Netcare Hospital. Come and learn how to build your awareness as well as self-defence techniques. Free yoga, security tips, family safety, surviving a sexual assault and more. All women (girls ages seven and up) are welcome, no experience necessary. Hike the Koppies

13 OCTOBER — Join the three-hour cross-koppie hike through Melville Koppies Nature Reserve starting at 8.30am. You can park in the upper car park at Marks Park on Judith Road, Emmarentia, opposite their entrance.
