KIM Maritz and Nicole Godfrey from Merensky competed in the Pick n Pay schools chefs’ final, hosted at the Prue Leith Chefs Academy in Centurion on September 5.
Twenty school teams from all over the country competed in five rounds over two days. Kim and Nicole participated with “Plasie Pride” being their main ingredient.
The set theme for their menu was: “African Cuisine, Cape to Cairo”. Kim and Nicole were the first contestants in Merensky’s culinary history to enter and go through to the final round of this competition. According to Kim, teamwork was key and time management their biggest challenge.
Unfortunately they did not win, but appreciated the opportunity as well as gift bags provided by sponsors to the value of R1 500.
