Police in Maake of have arrested a 37-year-old man for stabbing two men and killing one at Rhulani Village.

One of the victims was taken to hospital and is currently in a critical condition. According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the incident occurred on Saturday. It is alleged the men were at a party and a quarrel ensued, leading to the suspect stabbing the men with a broken bottle. At the time of going to press the motive was not yet known.

The deceased who is a 19-year-old man was certified dead on arrival at the local clinic. The arrested suspect appeared before the Naphuno Magistrate court on Monday on charges of murder and that of attempted murder.

“Police condemn this type of killings, because the abuse of liquor by some of our community members is still found to be the main generator of contact crimes such as murders, assaults, attempted murders, etc. in many areas,” Ngoepe said.

He added that they appeal to the community members to refrain from this tendency because it is creating high rate of reported crimes unnecessarily.
