Man arrested for possession of an AK 47
Six suspects were arrested and confiscated an AK 47 automatic rifle and dagga during an operation by the Tzaneen Cluster Police Task Team in Maake and Letsitele areas at the weekend.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the Cluster task team, commonly known as the Tekkie-Squard arrested the suspects aged between 19 and 34 years old following tip-offs from members of the community for various criminal activities ranging from possession of firearms and ammunition without license to selling liquor without license.
In the first incident, a 31 year-old man was arrested for possession AK 47 automatic rifle, ammunition and magazine without license while two suspects aged 31 and 34 years old were arrested for possession of dagga.
A 25 years-old man was arrested for attempted murder and the other two aged 19 and 30 years old were arrested for assault and selling liquor without license therefore contravening the Liquor Act.
All the arrested suspects were due to appear in the Ritavi and Naphuno Magistrate Courts respectively at the time of going to press.
Ngoepe warned that operations by the Tekkie-squard will go on until all criminal activities are in jail.
“Members of the Community are advised and encouraged to come forward with any information about any criminal activities in and around their areas such as, the whereabouts of wanted suspects, illegal firearms, drugs, stolen items including vehicles, etc,” said Ngoepe.
Any information may be reported to the Cluster Commander of the Saps Tzaneen Cluster, Brigadier Thomas Shingange being the leader of this Tekkie-squard, at 082 565 8155, for twenty-four hours.
