PHALABORWA: 15 years behind bars…with his ‘secret’

'During the trial the accused did not divulge the whereabouts of the police uniform...'

The police welcomed the conviction and subsequent sentence meted to Ronny Maake (26) for housebreaking and theft.

Maake was found guilty and sentenced by the Phalaborwa Regional Court on Thursday, December 15 to an effective 15 years imprisonment without an option of a fine.

Maake  committed the crime during September 2015 at the house of a senior Police Officer in Phalaborwa .

‘He gained entry by breaking the bathroom window and stole house hold equipment which included private clothes and a full police uniform. The accused was later linked to the crime during investigation.With his arrest some clothes were recovered at his house, however the  police uniform was never recovered.The estimated value of stolen properties amounted to R5 300,’ the police said in a statement.

According to the statement, the accused did not divulge the whereabouts of the police uniform during the trail.
