Two young men who wish to see themselves as the most ‘high ranked’ men in rugby, aim to put Phalaborwa on the map through their talent, and also pleads for support from the community.
“If we win, we will become an inspiration to other young dreamers”
The two young men from Frans Du Toit High School were selected by Vision Sports Club to represent South Africa in Mauritius in September.
They generously asked for a donation of R26 000 each to cover the cost of the trip, which makes it R52 000 for both of them.
“We believe there is talent out there and we are not the only talented young men. We have a spotlight, which does not only shine on us, but also on the community of Phalaborwa basically, and on South Africa as a whole. We urge the community, and everybody else to believe in us that we are going to do the best we can, to make them proud,” the young men persuaded.
“If we win, we will become an inspiration to other young dreamers and also a motivation to young aspiring young rugby players. We believe that it is possible with rugby. If Siya Kolisi can do it, then we can also do it. All we need are donations as we cannot afford to pay the requested amount for the fare. We promise to make our sponsors proud,” they continued.

One of the players, Kgotso Mphahlele (18), mentioned that he has had a passion for rugby since his grade 1 until he became a potential professional rugby player.
“I see myself as an international player such as the likes of Bryan Habana, but on the same path of Harold Vorster. I want to encourage everyone not to stop dreaming, they should not stop until it becomes reality,” Mphahlele motivated.
Another player, Mpho Sekgopo (18) widely known as ‘Beast’, stated that he was inspired by his brother who is also a rugby player and that his dream is to live by what he loves.
“I want to see my town growing. I promise that I would not turn my back against anyone even if the ‘grass is greener’ on my side, I would still remain the ‘Beast’ you know. I advise everyone to follow their heart. I committed myself to rugby, and I will play it forever,” he vowed.
