The Dance Place dancers shine in two major competitions

Few dancers from The Dance Place, led by Annemieke Osmers, took part at the annual Limpopo Amateur Dance Festival (LADF) in Modimolle recently.

There were seven other dance schools from Limpopo competing at the competition in different dance styles, age divisions and levels.

The dancers were judged by Danelle Muller, a well-known choreographer and dance professional in the industry.

Kaitlyn Schoeman, Elrene Knoetze, Liam O’Brien, Christine Venter, Diné Booyse, Karja Kruger, Tyra du Plessis, Zila Kruger, Tamar de Meyer, Imke Lewis, Karien Smith and Deané Eloff performed in their various divisions; acrobatics, modern jazz, hip hop, contemporary and open.

Kaitlyn and Elrene competed in the acrobatics beginner division where Elrene got 88.5% (2nd place) and Kaitlyn took 1st place with 95%.

Christine competed in the modern jazz beginner division and was placed first with 88.5%.

Diné and Karja competed as amateur modern jazz dancers where Karja was placed 2nd with 89.5% and Diné took 1st place with 95%.

Tyra, Zila and Tamar were competing as amateur contemporary dancers where Tyra was placed 3rd with 87%, Tamar 2nd with 88.5% and Zila in 1st place with 96%.

Karien competed in the hip hop beginner division and was placed 1st with 95%.

Deane did a hip hop novice solo and was placed 1st with 91.5%.

Liam competed as an advanced dancer in various styles. In acrobatic solo he received 1st place with 96.5%.

In contemporary solo, he was 1st with 89.5%. In open solo he was again placed 1st place with 96.8%.

Liam and Imke did a open duet and took 1st place with 96%.

Imke did an open novice solo, placed 1st with 95%.

Zila and Karja did an open amateur duet, and was placed 1st with 91.5%.

Karja, Liam, Tamar, Tyra and Zila did a open group item and were placed 1st with 96.5%.

In total The Dance Place brought home one A (80-87%), seven A+ (88-94%) and nine A++ (95-100%).

The Dance Place also took part in the annual Dance Fusion Limpopo Competition that was held at the Dutch Reformed Church, Tzaneen.

There were five dance schools from Tzaneen and Polokwane competing.

The dancers danced in different dance styles, age categories and levels.

The judges were Joubert Jonker and Cindy Hamman.

Joubert is a well-known dancer, choreographer and judges various competitions nationally and internationally.

Kaitlyn Schoeman, Imke Lewis, Liam O’Brien, Karja and Zila Kruger, Tamar de Meyer, Diné Booyse, Deané Eloff and Dané van Wyk took part in the competition.

The Dance Place received one gold (80%-84%), two pro gold (85%-89%), seven platinum (90%-94%), three diamond (95%-100%), two special awards for outstanding performances as well as overall trophies for best group performance with ‘Rise up’ (Karja, Liam, Tamar and Zila), best choreography (Liam O’Brien), best technique (Zila Kruger), most promising dancer (Diné Booyse) and best overall solo (Liam O’Brien).
