Water supply budget of R70m for Sekgosese

Mopani District Municipality (MDM) has budgeted R70 million for bulk water supply for Sekgosese.

Pule Shayi, executive mayor of MDM, announced this during his State of the District Address (SODA) on Wednesday, July 12 at the Giyani Community Hall. “In the Greater Letaba Municipality (GLM), the home of the Rain Queen, we have a number of water infrastructure projects currently underway. But we have also budgeted R70 million towards the Sekgosese Water Scheme project in the 2023/24 financial year. We also have R7 million for the Sefofotse to Ditshosine project with a specific focus on Ramahlatsi bulk and reticulation,” he said.

In reaching out to rural communities, at least 5 858 households have benefitted from the (VIP toilets) programme completed in the 2022/23 financial year, with 107 in the GLM, he said. Referring to the construction of roads in the GLM, he said the D3179 from Medingeng to Malematsa is progressing well. “The department, through RAL, will in this financial year be doing rehabilitation work on the D3840 road from Giyani to Makhuva as part of phase 2, the D11 from Lemondokop to Ga-Raphahlelo as part of phases 2 and 3, and the D3873 from Bokgaga to Lephephane as part of phase 2.

The D549 road in GLM will also be done during this financial year,” he said. He said the municipality will implement street paving projects in Moshakga/Makaba with a budget of R8 million, the Ramudumo village street paving with a budget of R13.8 million, the Abel village street paving with a budget of R13.5 million, the Burkina Faso village street paving with a budget of R9 million, Maupa village street paving with a budget of R9.6 million, and the Masakhaneng village street paving with a budget of R6 million. “A budget of R900 000 is set aside for the construction of the Rampepe access bridge,” he added.

He said that the GLM has set aside R9.4 million to complete the Madumeleng/Shotong sports complex. “The Department of Agriculture continues to support efforts around food security, and to that extent, they spent R19.8 million during the 2022/23 financial year to provide support to vegetable farmers. “During the 2022/23 financial year, they spent R4.7 million in support of the North Elephant project, R4 million on the Mabodyane Coop, and R3.2 million on the J Makhubele project,” concluded Shayi.
