Hitchhiker robbed at gunpoint

Police in Haenertsburg are investigating the robbery of a hitchhiker at gunpoint who was offered a lift on Sunday, November 5.

Police said in a statement the victim was offered a lift to Haenertsburg from Tzaneen on the R71 road by a group of three men driving a white Polo sedan. It is alleged that along the way, he was asked personal questions. He became suspicious and wanted to get out of the car.

“One of the suspects who was sitting with him on the backseat of the car produced a firearm and pointed it at him. “The victim was searched and an undisclosed amount of cash and a cellphone were taken from him.

They left him in the bushes in Politsi and drove off. The incident was reported to the police and a case was opened.
