Academics giveback by hosting career day

More than 650 Gr12 learners in the Thabina Circuit attended an inspiring career day hosted by JB Marks Alumni recently.

The learners received information on subject choices for careers. They were also motivated to remain disciplined to achieve their goals in life. Some of the advisors included Azola Mpeluza, an agricultural scientist; Kgomotso Makabeni, a chef; Mandisa Jwara, a lawyer; Dr Lwabo Rugu, a medical doctor and Philip Banda, a commercial pilot.

JB Marks Alumni was established in 2008 by former students who benefitted from the JB Marks Education Trust Fund, a bursary scheme for the National Union of Mine Workers and their beneficiaries. Every year they host career events countrywide as a way of giving back to their communities.

Magera Katangana said he is pleased with how the event went. “Learners asked many questions about the different careers they can follow,” he explained.
