Manhunt on for twenty cash-intransit heist suspects in Acornhoek

On Saturday afternoon, June 8, a Fidelity FCS vehicle transporting money from retail outlets around Thulamahashe was attacked by 20 armed men in Acornhoek.

It is reported that the Fidelity vehicle was rammed to a standstill by a silver Mercedes. The escort car of Fidelity FCS, a Toyota Hilux bakkie, was also attacked by suspects in two VW Polos. They shot and injured the driver who was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Two of their weapons were also taken. “The two Polos then followed the armoured vehicle and shot at it until it stopped. The suspects forced the driver and the crew out of the vehicle and forced them into the bushes.

The suspects were wearing balaclavas, gloves, and bulletproof vests and were Zulu-speaking. The suspects then bombed the armoured vehicle twice with explosives before an undisclosed amount of money was taken. They fled the scene in the direction of Dwarsloop, said Capt Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi of the Hawks.
