Magoebaskloof Plunge, run Haenertsburg to Tzaneen

Registration open for Magoebaskloof Plunge 2024, run 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km routes from Haenertsburg to Tzaneen on November 16.

TZANEEN – Athletes can get their takkies and water bottles ready for the Haenertsburg Rotary Club’s Magoebaskloof Plunge 2024 on November 16.

Runners can enter the 42.2km and 21.1km distances, or a 10km or 5km run.

The 42km ‘plunges’ from Haenertsburg to Tzaneen with a total ascent of about 400m and descent of about 1 100m.

After a 2km warm-up around the village, the route joins the R71 eastbound starting with a 3km climb. Participants will be running on the shoulder of the westbound lane of the road, facing oncoming traffic.

After 14km of ups and downs on the mountain, the course descends Magoebaskloof (495m over 5km) to the Lowveld.

The final 14km gradients on the R71, R36 and streets of Tzaneen to the finish.

The 21km race is run simultaneously on the latter half of the same course.

The two shorter distance events will be started after the leader group. The R71 will be partially closed for five hours and traffic officers will be assisting race marshals. There will be 14 water points at intervals of 3.5km and less and field toilets at 10km intervals.

Starting times and places:

42.2km: 05:30 in Plein Street Haenertsburg.
21.1km: 05:30 on R71 near km marker 77.0E.
10km: 06:30 at Allesbeste Padstal on the R71 near km marker 88.0E.
5km: 08:00 on Annecke Street 85 metres from the R528 T-junction.

All races finish at Letaba Rugby Club at the Tzaneen Showgrounds and will be timed.
