Limpopo Agriculture MEC champions food security at World Food Day celebrations, emphasising economic growth and job creation in the agricultural sector.

LIMPOPO – Agriculture and Rural Development MEC Nakedi Kekana recently hosted the provincial World Food Day celebrations at Selwane Stadium.

At the event, communities, government officials, and stakeholders addressed food security and rural development with the theme of the right to food for a better life and future.

Kekana was accompanied by Mopani District Municipality Mayor Pule Shayi and Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality Mayor Merriam Malatji.

Kekana emphasised the department’s commitment to ensuring food security in the province.

She highlighted the importance of inclusive economic growth, job creation, and promoting local industries, particularly in the agricultural sector.

“We have a responsibility to ensure that every citizen has access to nutritious food,” she said.

Malatji thanked the department for choosing Phalaborwa as the venue for the celebrations.

She acknowledged the significance of the food parcels distributed by Kekana to 200 beneficiaries, emphasising the impact on local communities.

Shayi urged community members to share the food and support one another, ensuring that everyone benefits from the resources available.

The event also provided a platform for local small and medium-sized enterprises and government departments to showcase and sell their food products.

Dignitaries at the event included Speaker Oliver Mabunda, Chief Whip Didodo Rapatsa, traditional leaders, and various heads of departments.
