Hawks launch manhunt for Giyani ATM robbers

The Hawks are searching for suspects who robbed Fidelity Security officers in Giyani, stealing cash and a firearm.

LIMPOPO – The Hawks have launched a manhunt for the suspects who robbed security officials attached to Fidelity Security at the Dzumeri Machayisenga complex outside Giyani on Monday, February 3.

According to the information received two security officials went to the complex to load money inside the ATMs. The officer who had left the vehicle was intercepted by a man who aimed a gun at him.

The suspect ordered the security official to lie down. The suspect took the trolley and removed two sealed bags containing an undisclosed amount of cash. Thereafter, the suspect proceeded to the driver and robbed him of his service pistol and ammunition. He went to a white Nissan NP 200 and drove off.

“The Phalaborwa Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Giyani Detectives Giyani Crime Intelligence, and Giyani Local Criminal Record Central were summoned to the crime scene. Several spent cartridges for a pistol were found at the scene. No one was injured,” explained Hawks Limpopo Spokesman, Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa.

Eyewitnesses say they saw three suspects wearing reflector jackets during the robbery.

A case of armed robbery was opened for investigation. The Hawks National Priority Violent Crime (NPVC) is handling the matter. Anyone with information that can lead the police to arrest the suspects is urged to contact the police crime stop at 08600 10111, mySAPS App, or alternatively contact the nearest police station.

The Acting Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo, Brigadier Desmond Alexander has activated a dedicated team of detectives to trace the suspect.

“Although the tracking NPVC is on the ground tracing the suspects, we are requesting the community to come forward with valuable information that may lead to the arrest and conviction of the offenders” said Brig Alexander.
