Repercussions for taxis in Tzaneen

Taxis and trucks at Tzaneng Mall’s traffic circle are being removed as law enforcement steps up following illegal parking concerns.

TZANEEN – Taxis, minibuses, and trucks illegally parked in the traffic circle at the corner of Agatha and Claude Wheatley streets near Tzaneng Mall have been removed following calls for stricter law enforcement.

The intervention comes after Ward 15 Democratic Alliance Cllr Chrizelle Dreyer raised concerns about escalating traffic violations and urged municipal authorities to act.

“We are pleased that officials responded swiftly. Law enforcement has started addressing the illegal stopping of taxis and trucks, improving traffic flow and public safety,” Dreyer said.

She emphasised the community’s frustration over the municipality’s lack of visible enforcement, which she said had led to congestion and deteriorating road discipline.

“Residents repeatedly complained about the disregard for traffic regulations. We will monitor the situation to ensure these improvements are maintained,” Dreyer added.

The parking issue has also sparked debate on social media, with some motorists citing insufficient parking at Tzaneng Mall as a contributing factor.
