No charges after bull incident in Tzaneen

No animal cruelty charges are expected after a bull was restrained in the old industrial area, as reports confirm it was aggressive and a safety risk.

TZANEEN – No animal cruelty charges are likely to be filed following an incident on Saturday, February 22, in the old industrial area, where footage of a bull tied down circulated widely on social media.

At the time, the DA issued a press statement vowing that those responsible would face prosecution. However, new details suggest the bull was dangerous and had to be restrained by several men to prevent harm to bystanders.

According to reports, the bull was purchased in a village in N’wamitwa and was quite aggressive. It was being transported on a cart that met all necessary transport requirements.

However, while travelling along the R36, the bull became restless, prompting the driver to stop for an inspection.

The animal then leapt from the cart, sustaining minor injuries. The bull was eventually cornered by bystanders near M-Fuels as it ran into the old industrial area.

Authorities, including the SPCA and municipal law enforcement, were at the scene, and the bull was reloaded onto the cart before being transported to its intended destination.
