Municipality takes the elderly to Kruger

GGM treats senior citizens to a special day at Kruger National Park’s Punda Maria Camp, rewarding elderly pageant winners with wildlife, lunch, and joy.

LIMPOPO – Senior citizens from across Giyani were recently treated to a memorable trip to the Kruger National Park’s Punda Maria Camp, courtesy of the Greater Giyani Municipality (GGM).

The group enjoyed a scenic day out, complete with wildlife sightings and a hearty lunch.

Acting mayor Christinah Zitha expressed her joy at seeing the elderly so happy and engaged during the outing.

Among the group were three grandmothers who earned their spots through GGM’s annual beauty pageant held in May.

The top three finalists were rewarded with the special trip.

According to GGM spokesperson Steven Mabunda, the pageant is part of a yearly fun day that celebrates the elderly.

It includes various competitions such as traditional dance, best-dressed, public speaking in English, and more.

In a video shared by GGM on Facebook, one grateful participant expressed her appreciation: “We have children, but most of them wouldn’t think of taking us to the Kruger. This was a wonderful day. We thank the municipality for thinking of us and hope they do the same next year.”
