Siyandhani eyes economic boom with airport, mall projects
Siyandhani village is set for major economic growth with plans for an international airport, new shopping centre, and large-scale job creation initiatives.
LIMPOPO – Siyandhani village is on the brink of major economic transformation, with large-scale developments expected to create significant employment opportunities and attract major retail players to the area.
Speaking recently to Spar employees during the relaunch of SuperSpar in Giyani after a long renovation process, Hosi Siyandhani outlined the vision for growth that will reshape the local economy and improve livelihoods for residents in Giyani.
“As you know, there’s a Siyandhani Airport that is on the cards,” he said. “When the construction of that airport is complete, we will need to see Spar there along with other shops because that is going to be an international airport, and a lot of jobs will be created.”
The proposed airport is expected to serve as a gateway for both domestic and international travellers, positioning Siyandhani as a strategic hub in the region.
The construction of the airport, known as FY Siyandhani Airport, was supposed to have started on June 1, but was delayed due to a technical procedure that was supposed to have been followed.
However, that process is now said to be complete, and construction is expected to take place any time soon. In addition to the airport project, major commercial development is also planned along the road to Malamulele.
“As we stand, there is huge development on the cards along the road to Malamulele, on the right just after the ‘Welcome to Giyani’ sign,” explained Hosi Siyandhani. “There’s going to be construction of Famanda City shopping centre, and all the big stores that we don’t have here, such as Makro and others, are coming.”
Famanda City is envisioned as a modern retail and business precinct that will not only expand shopping options for residents but also stimulate the local economy through job creation and investment.
Hosi Siyandhani urged community members to maintain discipline and professionalism as these developments take shape. “So continue to behave well and respect your jobs,” he said, emphasising the importance of readiness as opportunities open up.
He also underscored the commitment of Siyandhani’s traditional leadership to uplifting the community. “Siyandhani traditional leadership is different from any other leadership. You can’t say you are a leader, but you sit with unemployed people in your village and you’re doing nothing about it.
We always strive to see our communities have jobs,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the projects underway would have a lasting impact on youth employment around his village and the community of Giyani at large. “I’m telling you, as from next year, no youth from Siyandhani village will be unemployed.
All of them will be able to wake up in the morning, bathe, and either go to school or go to work, because we’re doing something that will create jobs for them,” he said.
The new development is anticipated to launch a new era of economic growth and opportunity for Siyandhani village and neighbouring communities.
Plans also include the construction of accommodation facilities and a truck station, where long-distance trucks will be able to refuel, park, and rest before continuing their journeys.
