Maruleng Mayor welcomes new CT-Hoedies route

Mayor Tsheko Musolwa welcomes FlySafair’s new Cape Town–Hoedspruit route, set to boost tourism and local economy.

HOEDSPRUIT – Maruleng Local Municipality Mayor Tsheko Musolwa has welcomed the new direct flight route from low-cost airline FlySafair between Cape Town and Hoedspruit, describing it as a major catalyst for tourism and economic development in the region.

FlySafair announced that the new service will commence in October 2025, with three weekly flights operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

The route will link Cape Town International Airport with Eastgate Airport in Hoedspruit, Limpopo’s busiest airport.

“This development supports our long-standing call for Eastgate Airport to be granted international status,” said Mayor Musolwa. “It is a significant step forward for tourism in Maruleng and positions Hoedspruit as a key gateway to Limpopo’s major attractions.”

The direct flights are expected to improve regional connectivity, making it easier for tourists to access nearby wildlife reserves, game lodges, and conservation areas, while also reducing reliance on the congested Johannesburg travel corridor.

Hoedspruit Chamber of Commerce chairperson Matthew Diederichs also praised the announcement, highlighting its potential benefits for both tourism and the local economy.

“Everyone flying in and out of Hoedspruit currently goes through Johannesburg. This new route will make travel more accessible and affordable,” he said. “It also opens the door for more short-stay visits combining Cape Town and Kruger.”

The Maruleng Local Municipality has reaffirmed its support for projects that drive tourism and promote sustainable economic growth in the region.
